The publisher of Writer's Digest, Popular Woodworking and other niche magazines has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy amid plummeting subscriptions and advertising revenue.
New York-based F+W Media asked for court protection from its creditors on Sunday after it nearly ran out of money, according to a court filing.
The company's publications include more than 50 specialized titles in arts and crafts, writing, design, knitting and the outdoors. It also publishes books, holds consumer and trade events and sells products online.

Crime has become the most popular fiction genre in the UK. Book shops and libraries are bursting at the seams with decent page-turners. Crime fiction has many powers. There is nothing – no moral or political issue, no character type, no philosophical query – which cannot be served by a good crime story. Really, ‘genre’ is a lazy catch-all term for a subject matter which has been utilised by writers as diverse as Robert Louis-Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, Muriel Spark, Patricia Highsmith, Douglas Adams, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid and Paula Hawkins.

Abrams Artists Agency Hires Simon Green To Run Book & Publishing Division

Abrams Artists Agency has hired former CAA agent Simon Green, with the industry veteran set to lead the company’s Book and Publishing division. He will be based in New York and begins immediately, marking the latest move to bolster the entertainment talent and literary agency’s agent and client roster under new ownership.
Green launched CAA’s Book Publishing Department in 2009, growing that division’s biz from scratch before exiting in the spring. He had spent 17 years before that at Pom Inc., a lit agency started by his dad, Dan, the longtime Simon & Schuster publisher.

Interested parties must pay an entry fee of C$25 ($19; £15) and answer the question "Why would moving to this lakefront dream home change your life"?
Owner Alla Wagner is leaving the home she says she loves due to poor health.
Inspired by stories of similar contests, she decided to launch "write a letter, win a house" when the C$1.7m home failed to sell.
